What "big" lesson have you learned from students?

ďPeople donít care how much you know until they know how much you careĒ-- John C. Maxwell

Who is your hero and why?

What one thing do you do to "go the extra mile" for your students?

We have intrusive advising here at Tougaloo College. When we need to see a student, and the normal avenues donít produce results we move to our next phase. We jokingly call it phase 2. In order to see the student face to face we will go to their classrooms, go to the cafeteria and look for them when they go to eat, we will look for them at campus events. I have even gone to a studentís job to see them. I have waited for a student to get off from work and come back to work to meet him concerning an advising issue.

How long have you been in advising?

Three for adult learners and two for undergraduates.

What is the best advice you share with students?

If you fail to plan, plan to fail. Success will not miraculously happen without planning, dedication and hard work.

What is the last book you read?

Tricks of the Grade Street Smart Strategies for Acing College by Joe Martin

What advice would you give to other advisors?

Listen to students and act as a facilitator to help them achieve their goals and dreams.

How do you fill your free time?

I have no free time. I am pursing a doctoral degree

What is the funniest story you have about advising?
