What "big" lesson have you learned from students?

That life changes constantly; we should all be willing to go with the flow and enjoy the ride.

Who is your hero and why?

Mother Teresa of Calcutta "Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies."

What one thing do you do to "go the extra mile" for your students?

Trips to Walmart, collect food/clothing after fires and Katrina; I get involved with them beyond the office when I can.

How long have you been in advising?

25 years

What is the best advice you share with students?

It is your education, not mine, not your mom's, not your advisor's; know what is required and when.

What is the last book you read?

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch and Blood Memory by Greg Iles

What advice would you give to other advisors?

Be open, warm and welcoming.

How do you fill your free time?

Reading, movies, renovating my house

What is the funniest story you have about advising?

I was asked at Orientation if a student could wear pajamas to class.
