What "big" lesson have you learned from students?

Every student and his/her situation is different.

Who is your hero and why?

My mother, she did a wonderful job raising me on her own, while becoming a great professional in her field.

What one thing do you do to "go the extra mile" for your students?

Put whatever I have on hold while helping them address their issues.

How long have you been in advising?

6 years

What is the best advice you share with students?

Enjoy college. It is the best time of your life. However, remember your first priority is to get an education.

What is the last book you read?

Knowledge and Money (for my graduate class, Finance in Higher Education).

What advice would you give to other advisors?

Networking is an excellent tool in your profession. I have so many friends and colleagues from around the country who are in the academic advising profession.

How do you fill your free time?

Exercise, graduate school, family, and traveling.

What is the funniest story you have about advising?

Not one particularly; just numerous parent phone calls wanting to give me their entire life story.
